They must clearly work. They grab the eyeballs but they do it in a very cheap way IMHO.
I think they are ugly, ugly ads.

Lowest common denominator, my friend

Funny you should mention it. I was thinking about this last night. I am strangely fascinated by them-- and repulsed at the same time. No clue what that means. Are they aimed at men or women?

In a web advertising world with so many static (non-animated) ads, these get significantly higher click-through rates. Typically ads like that get about 1 click for every 1,000 impressions on a site. It's quite possible that an ad like that could get 3-6 clicks for every 1,000 impressions.

What I meant to say was, "Typically non-animated ads in that format get about 1 click for every 1,000 impressions on a site. It's quite possible that an animated ad like that could get 3-6 clicks for every 1,000 impressions."
